Scope

This document provides an overview of test methods for determining the flammability of electrical and electronic products and their materials, including test methods that use flammability as an important quantitative indicator.
This document presents test methods that represent the current state-of-the-art technology and, where appropriate, provides special explanations about the relevance and application of these test methods.
This document is applicable to the assessment of the flammability of electrical and electronic products and the materials used in them, as well as their relevance to fire hazards.
This document is intended for use by technical committees when preparing standards in accordance with the principles set out in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51.
One of the tasks of the technical committee is to use this series of standards wherever applicable when preparing standards in this field. Unless specifically mentioned or listed in the relevant standards, the requirements, test methods, or test conditions of this document will not apply.
