Scope

This standard specifies the terms, symbols, and abbreviations, measurement principles, performance, calibration, output characteristics, and installation conditions for ultrasonic flowmeters (hereinafter referred to as flowmeters) that use the transit time of ultrasonic signals to measure the flow of unidirectional homogeneous liquids in closed pipes.
This standard does not impose any restrictions on the maximum or minimum dimensions of flowmeters.
This standard applies to flowmeters with or without dedicated verification (calibration) systems, and those that use insertion and clamp-on transducers (for both beam non-refraction and beam refraction configurations), including flowmeters with casings and those with transducers installed on-site.
