Scope

This document specifies the technical requirements, inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation, and storage of lead-acid batteries used in automotive start-stop systems, and describes the corresponding test methods. This document applies to exhaust-type lead-acid batteries and valve-regulated lead-acid batteries (hereinafter referred to as batteries) with a rated voltage of 12 V, which are used to power the starting, ignition, and lighting of automobiles equipped with start-stop systems, as well as in the idle state. This document does not apply to batteries used for starting railway internal combustion engines.
