Scope

Scope: This document specifies the terms and definitions, silage methods, preparation processes, and technical requirements for alfalfa silage in the Liupanshan region of Ningxia. This document applies to the preparation of alfalfa silage in the Liupanshan region of Ningxia. Main technical content: 3. Terms and definitions: The following terms and definitions apply to this document. - Alfalfa silage: Alfalfa silage is made by harvesting alfalfa, drying it to a moisture content of 55% to 65%, and storing it in silage pits or wrapped packages under anaerobic conditions using lactic acid bacteria to inhibit harmful bacteria and ensure long-term preservation. - Silage additives: Preparations such as lactic acid bacteria and organic acids added during the silage process. - Bud stage: The stage when 50% of alfalfa plants show buds. - Early flowering stage: The stage when 10% of alfalfa plants begin to flower. 4. Silage methods: 4.1.1 Wrapped silage: Alfalfa is harvested, cut short, and bundled, then wrapped in stretch film for silage. 4.1.2 Wrapped silage should be stored in a flat, well-drained area, preferably on a concrete surface. 4.2.1 Silage pits or tanks: A method suitable for large-scale (or medium-sized) farms and livestock keepers. 4.2.2 Silage pits or tanks should be located in high, dry areas with good drainage. 4.2.3 Pits or tanks can be built aboveground or semi-underground. Rectangular shapes are preferred. The volume of the pits or tanks depends on the number of livestock, feeding rations, and storage capacity per unit volume. 4.2.4 The walls of the pits or tanks should be smooth, airtight, and waterproof. The bottom of the pits or tanks should have a slope of about 45° to ensure that the silage is compacted in the corners and facilitate the drainage of excess liquid after removing the silage. 5. Preparation process: 5.1.1 Before silage preparation, clean and disinfect the silage facilities, check the walls of the pits or tan
