Scope

This document specifies the principles of the Nuh's hardness test for metals, including the hardness tester, test samples, test procedures, uncertainty of results, and test reports. This document stipulates that the Nuh's hardness test should be conducted with a test force range of 0.009 807 N to 19.613 N. It also requires that the indentation diagonal length be no less than 0.020 mm. Due to the limitations of optical measurement systems and the imperfect geometry of the indenter, which result in significant uncertainty, it is beyond the scope of this document to determine Nuh's hardness from smaller indentations, as the results would be highly uncertain. This document also prescribes a method for users to conduct periodic inspections of the hardness tester on a daily basis.
