Scope

This document provides rules for the composition of code numbers for signal identification and signal connections, including those for power supply. This document is applicable to all types of signals in industrial systems, devices, and equipment, as well as industrial products. It does not address the physical implementation of signals, but rather focuses on the information aspects of signals. General principles of human-machine interface information presentation are beyond the scope of this document. This document is not applicable to the identification of wiring, terminals, bushings, or other hardware connections. Note: Wiring identification references IEC 62491. This document is primarily intended for use by technical committees in the preparation of standards based on the guidelines of IEC 108. One of the responsibilities of technical committees is to refer to horizontal standards when preparing publications, unless the publications explicitly state that they do not apply or that the content of this horizontal standard is not applicable.
