GB/T 18048-2026 Ergonomics of the thermal environment—Determination of metabolic rate

Scope

This document describes the methods of measuring various metabolic rates in working thermal environments. This document is applicable to the evaluation of work behavior, the estimation of physical energy consumption in specific jobs and sports, and the estimation of total energy consumption in specific activities. The methods of estimating metabolic rates are divided into four levels, with increasing accuracy in each level: the first level is a screening method, where the table provides examples of activities with low, medium, and high metabolic rates; the second level is an observation method, which estimates metabolic rates through time and motion studies; the third level is an analytical method, which estimates metabolic rates by recording heart rates or measuring acceleration; and the fourth level is a measurement method, which uses more complex techniques to measure metabolic rates.
This document introduces the implementation procedures of various methods of measuring metabolic rates and discusses uncertainties.
