Scope

This standard specifies methods to reduce the hydrogen embrittlement sensitivity or the degree of sensitivity that may occur during surface finishing processes.
The heat treatment processes specified in this standard can effectively reduce hydrogen embrittlement sensitivity. These heat treatment processes are carried out after surface finishing, but before any secondary conversion film processes.
The stress relief heat treatment processes used after processing but before surface finishing are specified in ISO 9587.
This standard does not apply to fasteners.
Note: Heat treatment does not guarantee the complete elimination of the harmful effects of hydrogen embrittlement.
