Scope

The method described in this standard is applicable to the measurement of the wettability of umbrellas and umbrella sheath materials used in overhead lines, substations, and electrical equipment, as well as the wettability of porcelain insulators with or without a coating. The measured values represent the wettability at the time of measurement.
The purpose of this standard is to describe three methods that can be used to determine the wettability of insulators. The determination of the ability of water to wet the surface of insulators can be used to evaluate the condition of the surface of insulators in use, or as part of insulator testing in the laboratory.
