Scope
This standard specifies the test method for the lateral stability of passenger car trains.
This standard applies to passenger cars, light trucks, and trains composed of them as defined in ISO 3833.
The lateral stability test can determine the damping characteristics of the traction vehicle-trailer train caused by a defined steering pulse. First, the train moves steadily forward, and then a single steering pulse is used to induce lateral oscillations in the vehicle. The steering wheel is held fixed for a period of time, allowing the vehicle's oscillations to gradually dissipate. The test is conducted at several different speeds. If non-periodic oscillations occur, a stabilization test cycle should be specified.
