Scope

This document evaluates the mechanical vibration of reciprocating machines by measuring the vibration of non-rotating and non-reciprocating components of the entire machine. The vibration of shafts, including torsional vibration, is not within the scope of this document.
This document is applicable to rigid or elastically mounted reciprocating piston machines with a rated power greater than 100 kW, such as ship propulsion engines, marine auxiliary engines, diesel generators, reciprocating pumps, and locomotive diesel engines.
This document is generally used for operational monitoring and acceptance tests, and also for evaluating whether the vibration of the machine has a negative impact on the instruments and equipment directly installed on the machine.
