Scope

This document specifies the storage conditions, storage facilities, and requirements for handling and inspection of processed safety photographic films (hereinafter referred to as photographic films) of all sizes, and provides recommendations. These films may be in the form of rolls, strips, windowed cards, or loose sheets.
This document applies to the long-term and medium-term storage of photographic films.
This document applies to storage copies of infrequently used photographic film records. It does not apply to "working" or "used" copies (see Appendix A).
Although this document applies to materials that have been properly developed and processed, it is also valuable in extending the lifespan of photographic films that have undergone toning, retouching, or marking with materials of uncertain or unknown stability, even if the processing conditions are unknown.
This document only applies to safety photographic films (see ISO 18906). Nitrate film bases are not included in this document.
Note: Nitrate film bases are dangerous (see Reference [16]). They require special storage conditions (see Reference [12]), but the environmental conditions specified in this document are applicable.
This document does not apply to photographic paper and photographic plates, as their storage requires different conditions, which are described in ISO 18920 and ISO 18918, respectively.
