Scope

This document describes a method for measuring the flow-out time of paints, varnishes, and related products, which can be used to monitor viscosity.
This document specifies four flow-out cups with similar dimensions and flow-out apertures of 3 mm, 4 mm, 5 mm, and 6 mm, and provides two methods for checking the wear of the flow-out cups (see Appendix A).
This document does not include flow-out cups with replaceable flow-out apertures, as the cup bodies with installed flow-out apertures do not meet the tolerance requirements.
This document does not include commonly used immersion flow-out cups.
Note: Due to the larger manufacturing tolerances of these flow-out cups compared to those specified in this document, the accuracy of flow-out time obtained with immersion flow-out cups is lower than that obtained with the flow-out cups specified in this document (see Chapter 9).
The method described in this document is suitable for test materials that can accurately determine the breakpoint of the liquid flow from the flow-out apertures of the self-flow-out cups. However, due to the influence of the deceleration effect, it is difficult to determine and reproduce the breakpoint for materials with flow-out times close to the upper limit of the test range (100 s).
