Scope

This standard specifies the requirements for the use of thermal protectors or thermal detectors installed inside the stator windings of induction motors or placed in other appropriate locations in induction motors to prevent serious damage to the motor caused by thermal overload. This standard applies to motors manufactured in accordance with the requirements of IEC 60034-12 and with voltage limits that comply with the provisions of IEC 60034-12. It does not apply to the protection of bearings and other structural components. Note 1: Although the temperature limits given in this standard are higher than those specified in IEC 60034-1, the two are not contradictory. Note 2: There may be additional requirements for special-purpose motors, such as motors used in household appliances or in explosive gas environments.
