Scope

This standard specifies the structural types, installation types, and the classification of the position of the wiring box for rotating motors—IM code. The two classification methods are defined as follows: Code 1 (see Chapter 2): The alphanumeric code is suitable for motors with end-cover bearings and one shaft extension. Code 2 (see Chapter 3): The all-numeric code is suitable for a wider range of motor types, including the motor types covered by Code 1. Motor types not included in Code 2 should be fully described in writing. The relationship between Code 1 and Code 2 is described in Appendix A (informative appendix).
