Scope

This document describes the test method for determining the fracture toughness of fine ceramics at room temperature using the surface crack fracture (SCF) method.
This document is applicable to materials with flat or rising crack propagation resistance curves, as well as single-phase ceramics and multi-phase ceramics reinforced with whiskers (or) particles.
This document is not applicable to ceramic matrix composites reinforced with continuous fibers.
