Scope

This document describes guidelines for understanding and applying special control charts for statistical process control.
This document is applicable to situations where conventional control charts fail to detect or are less effective in detecting unnatural patterns of process variation.
For measurement data, the special control charts included in this document are:
a) Moving average and moving range control charts;
b) Z-charts;
c) Group-based control charts;
d) Extreme value control charts;
e) Trend control charts;
f) Coefficient of variation control charts;
g) Control charts for non-normal data.
For count data, the special control charts included in this document are:
a) Standardized p-control charts;
b) Defect control charts;
c) Gage inspection control charts.
The guidelines provided in this document also include the usage conditions, control limits, advantages, and disadvantages of each type of control chart, as well as examples.
