Scope

This standard specifies the acceptance levels 2 and 3 for ultrasonic testing of fully penetrated ferritic welded joints. The acceptance levels 2 and 3 of this standard correspond to the B-grade and C-grade weld quality requirements in GB/T 19418, respectively. Since D-grade welds in GB/T 19418 are generally not subject to ultrasonic testing, there is no corresponding ultrasonic testing acceptance level in this standard for D-grade welds in GB/T 19418.
The acceptance levels of this standard are applicable to ultrasonic testing in accordance with GB/T 11345.
This standard applies to ferritic fully penetrated welds with a thickness of 8 mm to 100 mm. If the detection sensitivity required by the acceptance level of this standard can be achieved after fully considering the geometry and acoustic performance of the workpiece, this standard can also be applied to welds of other types, other materials, and thicknesses exceeding 100 mm. Unless material attenuation or higher probe resolution requirements require probes of other frequencies, the nominal frequency of the probes used in this standard is 2 MHz to 5 MHz. If the frequency used is outside this range, the acceptance level needs to be carefully considered.
