Scope

This part applies to the electrical equipment types specified in Sections 1.1 and 1.2, whose main contacts are used to connect circuits with a rated voltage of not more than 1,000 V AC or 1,500 V DC.
The starters and/or contactors covered by this part are generally not used for breaking short-circuit currents. Therefore, appropriate short-circuit protection devices (see Section 9.3.4) form part of the equipment, but they are not essential for contactors or starters.
This part applies to the following contactors and starters:
—— Contactors equipped with overload and/or short-circuit protection devices;
—— Starters equipped with separate short-circuit protection devices and/or starters equipped with separate short-circuit protection devices and having their own overload protection devices;
—— Contactors or starters, when assembled with short-circuit protection devices under specified conditions, such as integrated starters or protective starters, are considered as a single unit.
In integrated starters and protective starters, the circuit breakers or fuse combination devices serving as short-circuit protection devices should meet the requirements of GB 14048.2 and GB 14048.3 accordingly.
This part includes the following electrical equipment types:
