Basic Information
Scope
This document, based on practical experience and theoretical research [7], describes a method for calculating the load-carrying capacity of bevel gears and hypoid gears—the flash temperature method. The formulas in this document aim to establish a unified and acceptable method for calculating the anti-sticking capacity of steel straight-toothed bevel gears, helical bevel gears, arc-toothed bevel gears, zero-degree bevel gears, and hypoid gears. These formulas are also applicable to tapered gears and equal-height gears. In the following text, the term "bevel gears" refers to all the aforementioned gear types; if not all types are included, they will be specified explicitly. At the time of this document's publication, the flash temperature method for calculating the load-carrying capacity of bevel gears and hypoid gears was not yet available. The formulas in this document are based on the equivalent cylindrical gear theory and are limited to bevel gears with an equivalent cylindrical gear end face coincidence ratio εvα < 2. The calculation results are valid within the range of the usage coefficients specified in ISO 10300-1 (see ISO 6336-2). Additionally, the presented calculation method is also applicable to bevel gears with a zero sum of the profile deviation coefficients of the small and large wheels (see ISO 23509).
