Scope

This standard specifies two methods for determining the residual vinyl chloride monomer (RVCM) content in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) using headspace gas chromatography, namely Method A (liquid-headspace gas chromatography) and Method B (solid-headspace gas chromatography). Method A of this standard is applicable to the determination of the residual vinyl chloride monomer content in vinyl chloride homopolymer and copolymer resins and their products; Method B is applicable to the determination of the residual vinyl chloride monomer content in vinyl chloride homopolymer resins (polyvinyl chloride). For vinyl chloride homopolymer resins, Method B shall be used as the arbitration method. The minimum detection limits of Method A of this standard are 0.5 mg/kg; those of Method B are 0.1 mg/kg.
