Scope

This standard specifies the classification, requirements, test methods, inspection rules, marking, labeling, packaging, transportation, and storage of tufted carpet products. This standard applies to tufted carpets made from synthetic fibers, wool, and wool-blend fibers as pile materials. The yarn is pierced into the base fabric by a tufting machine to form a pile row. The pile is fixed to the back of the carpet with an adhesive, or a backing is applied to the tufted carpet. Tufted carpets with piles made from other fiber materials can also be used as reference.
