Scope

Scope: This standard specifies the terms and definitions of disastrous fungal diseases in the middle and late stages of sugarcane growth on low-latitude plateaus, the main prevention and control targets, symptoms and epidemic characteristics, prevention and control principles, and prevention and control methods, etc. This standard applies to the comprehensive prevention and control of three disastrous fungal diseases in the middle and late stages of sugarcane growth on low-latitude plateaus: sugarcane shoot rot (Pokkah Boeng), brown stripe disease, and brown rust disease. Main technical content: 3.1 Terminology and definitions 3.2 Sugarcane brown stripe disease (Brown Stripe): A prevalent fungal disease caused by Cochliobolus stenospilus (asexual stage: Helminthosporium stenospilum) infecting the leaves of sugarcane, resulting in leaf necrosis and inhibiting the growth of sugarcane. 3.3 Sugarcane brown rust disease (Brown Rust): A prevalent rust fungal disease caused by Puccinia melanocephala H.Sydow & P.Sydow (synonym: Puccinia erianthi Padw et Khan) infecting the leaves of sugarcane, resulting in leaf necrosis and inhibiting the growth of sugarcane. 3.4 Disease incidence: For sugarcane shoot rot, three points were randomly selected, and 100 plants were surveyed at each point. The total number of surveyed plants and the number of diseased plants were recorded, and the disease incidence was calculated as follows: Disease incidence = number of diseased plants / total number of surveyed plants × 100%. 3.5 Disease index: For sugarcane brown stripe disease and brown rust disease, three sampling points were used, and 20 plants were surveyed at each point for disease grading. Among them, 1 - no symptoms on the leaves; 3 - the lesion area accounts for 0% to 25% of the leaf area; 5 - the lesion area accounts for 26% to 50% of the leaf area; 7 - the lesion area accounts for 51% to 75% of the leaf area; 9 - the lesion area accounts for 76% to 100% of the leaf area.
