This document specifies the application and recording requirements for the determination of particulate contaminants (cleanliness inspection) in components and systems related to the functionality of road vehicles.
The cleanliness inspection forms the basis for technical cleanliness assessments, such as those conducted in the following situations:

—— Inspection of components entering and leaving the warehouse;
—— Quality control or monitoring of cleanliness-related manufacturing processes (such as cleaning, surface treatment, and assembly processes).
This document aims to improve the information quality and comparability of test results, while standardizing the expression of cleanliness specifications and cleanliness test results in the automotive industry quality chain.
This document does not apply to the following:
—— Detection of film contamination (grease, oil, etc.);
—— Application of non-quantifiable particulate detection methods on test components (such as visual evaluation, wiping the test liquid with a clean cloth, etc.);
—— Characteristics of working fluids (fuel, oil, coolant, brake fluid, etc.).
