Scope

This document describes a method for measuring the dynamic mechanical properties and determining the glass transition temperature (Tg) at a constant heating rate. The glass transition temperature is the temperature at which an amorphous polymer or partially crystalline polymer transitions from a hard and relatively brittle glass state to a highly elastic or viscous state. This document is applicable to unreinforced and filled polymers, foams, rubbers, adhesives, and fiber-reinforced plastics/composites. The method is limited to materials that are stable above Tg, i.e., amorphous materials that transition to a highly elastic state or partially crystalline materials that maintain their shape due to crystallization.
