Scope

This standard specifies the methods for determining the roughness of paper and cardboard using the Bünting method and the printing surface method. The Bünting method is suitable for paper and cardboard with a Bünting roughness value of approximately 50 mL/min to 1,200 mL/min. It is not suitable for soft paper that will leave obvious indentations on the paper surface when the probe end face is used, nor for highly breathable paper that allows air to penetrate the paper sheets, or for paper that cannot be placed flat under a metal heavy ring. The printing surface method is suitable for all printing paper and cardboard that can form a good seal with the protective ring surface of the probe.
