Scope
1.1 This standard specifies the physical media characteristics in the following aspects:
a) Providing half-duplex or full-duplex data transmission capabilities for multi-point interconnections of twisted pair cables in two-wire or four-wire network topologies;
b) Transmitting binary signals and bidirectional signals between interconnected end systems;
c) Designing the electrical and mechanical aspects of branch cables and common trunk cables in end systems, which can be up to 1,200 meters long;
d) Measuring the components of integrated circuit-based generators and receivers within end systems;
e) Supporting data signal rates up to 12.5 Mbit/s.
