Basic Information
Scope
This document describes various methods for measuring the dimensional changes of vulcanized rubber or thermoplastic rubber specimens during and after tensile loading within a relatively short time under constant elongation rate or constant load.
The constant elongation rate test is used to determine the ability of rubber to maintain its elasticity after being stretched. The rubber is stretched to a specified strain at standard laboratory temperature, and the strain is maintained at the same temperature or a specified higher temperature for a specified time. Then, the strain is released at the test temperature or standard laboratory temperature.
The constant load test specifies the test method for measuring the elongation rate, creep, and tensile permanent deformation of rubber after being subjected to constant load at standard laboratory temperature.
This document is suitable for measuring the elastic properties of rubber with a hardness range of 20 IRHD to 94 IRHD.
The creep measurement method described in this document is not suitable for product design and evaluation of low-creep materials. For such tests, ISO 8013 should be used. The test results of this test are not comparable to those of ISO 8013.
Note: The constant load test is mainly used to measure the vulcanization state and quality control of thin-walled products. An increase in the vulcanization state or crosslinking degree is usually manifested as permanent deformation, creep, and a decrease in elongation rate.
