Scope

1.1.101 This dedicated standard specifies the safety requirements for automatic control devices used for close-range treatment of patients with afterloading technology.
1.1.102 This section specifies the requirements for automatic control afterloading devices, which
——contain and only use sealed radioactive sources of beta, gamma, and neutron radiation;
——can automatically send the sealed radioactive sources from the storage device to the treatment position in the applicator and return them to the storage device from the treatment position;
——are designed to come into contact with patients;
——the source drive mechanism should be controlled by a preset program or timing device to automatically complete the movement of the radioactive sources. The control timer or timing device can be a programmable electronic subsystem (PESS) (computer or microprocessor) or a non-programmable electronic system.
