Scope

This standard specifies the performance requirements for components and parts of prefabricated fire-extinguishing systems when they are applied in specific types, configurations, specifications, and arrangements, as well as the minimum requirements for testing and component evaluation.
This standard applies to the design, testing, and operation of prefabricated fire-extinguishing systems used to protect marine kitchen smoke hoods, exhaust ducts, fryers, and other oil-containing equipment.
For features, characteristics, components, materials, or systems of products that are new or different from the requirements of this standard and pose potential risks of fire, electric shock, or personal injury, appropriate additional tests of components or finished products can be conducted in accordance with this standard.
Note: Among the kitchen cooking equipment covered by this standard, only deep-frying cooking equipment is required to be equipped with fixed fire-extinguishing systems in accordance with the requirements of Chapter II-2, Article 10.6.4 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS).
