Scope

This document defines the application-service-element (ASE) protocol for interlibrary loan applications, describing the behavioral norms that a system must adhere to when joining the interlibrary loan service. This document states the behavioral guidelines that both or all parties involved in interlibrary loan transactions must follow, specifically: a) the actions taken when receiving a service request primitive from an interlibrary loan service user; b) the actions taken when receiving application protocol data units (APDU); c) the actions taken by the local system as a result of an event. This document describes the abstract syntax required for transmitting APDUs for interlibrary loan protocol applications (see Chapter 9). This document outlines the consistency requirements that must be followed when implementing the protocol (see Chapter 10).
