Basic Information
Scope
This standard specifies the minimum requirements and test methods for adhesive tape used in the inflatable compartments of inflatable lifeboats that meet the requirements of Chapter 1, Section 1.2, and Chapter 5 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS 1974) and its amendments, the International Life-Saving Appliance (LSA) Code (IMO MSC.48(66) resolution), and the IMO A.689(17) resolution and its amendments. The adhesive tape is made by coating a base fabric with synthetic elastic or plastic compounds on one or both sides.
In addition to the SOLAS requirements for the adhesive tape used in inflatable lifeboats, it should also meet the requirements of ISO 6185:1982 "Requirements for Enhanced Elastic or Plastic Materials for Inflatable Boats in Ships and Marine Technology".
