Scope

1.1 This standard specifies the method for directly determining the water content in crude oil using the Karl Fischer coulometric titration method.
1.2 For crude oil with a content of mercaptan sulfur or divalent sulfide ions, or the total amount (mass fraction) of both, ranging from 0.005% to 0.05%, the measurement range for water (mass fraction) is 0.050% to 5.00%; for crude oil with a content of mercaptan sulfur or divalent sulfide ions, or the total amount (mass fraction) of both, less than 0.005%, the measurement range for water (mass fraction) is 0.020% to 5.00%.
