Scope

This part of GB/T 14191 specifies the terminology used in the fields of prosthetics and orthotics for extracorporeal limbs. It defines the basic terms used to describe such prostheses and orthoses, the anatomical parts of the human body where these prostheses or orthoses are installed, and the personnel and methods involved in prosthetics and orthotics practice.
This part does not apply to extracorporeal prostheses used to replace breasts or other parts of the human body, such as dental prostheses or orthotic devices, nor to intracorporeal prostheses or orthotic appliances; it also does not apply to orthotic appliances that merely cover single limbs (such as those used for fracture treatment and sports medicine).
