Scope

This standard specifies the acceptance principles, acceptance limits, allowable measurement uncertainties of measuring instruments, and selection principles for measuring instruments for the inspection of the dimensions of smooth workpieces.
This standard applies to the inspection of the dimensions of smooth workpieces with a tolerance grade of 6 to 18 (IT6 to IT18) and a nominal size of up to 500 mm, using common measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and comparators and projectors used in workshops.
This standard also applies to the inspection of general tolerance dimensions.
