Basic Information
Scope
The Fieldbus Application Layer (FAL) provides users with a means of accessing the Fieldbus communication environment. In this regard, FAL can be viewed as a "window between corresponding applications".
This document provides common elements and specialized information about the PROFINET IO Fieldbus for message communication with basic and non-strict time requirements between applications in an automation environment. The term "strict time requirements" refers to the existence of a time window within which one or more specified actions must be completed with a certain level of determinism. Failure to complete the specified actions within this time window may lead to the failure of the applications requesting these actions, and even pose risks to instruments, equipment, and potentially human safety.
This document defines the externally visible services provided by the PROFINET IO Fieldbus Application Layer in an abstract manner from the following aspects:
a) Defining an abstract model of application resources (objects), which users can utilize through FAL services;
b) Primitive actions and events of the services;
c) The parameters associated with each primitive action and event, as well as their form.
The interrelationships between these actions and events and their effective sequence.
The purpose of this document is to define several services for:
a) FAL users at the interface between the user and the application layer of the Fieldbus Reference Model;
b) System management at the interface between the application layer of the Fieldbus Reference Model and system management.
This section defines the structure and services of the PROFINET IO Fieldbus Application Layer based on the OSI Basic Reference Model (see ISO/IEC 7498-1) and the OSI Application Layer Structure (ISO/IEC 9545).
FAL services and protocols are provided by the FAL Application Entities (AEs) contained in the applica
