Scope

This standard specifies the high-resolution gas chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry method for determining polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) in ambient air. This standard is applicable to the determination of 26 types of PBDEs in ambient air, including BDE 7, BDE 15, BDE 17, BDE 28, BDE 47, BDE 49, BDE 66, BDE 71, BDE 77, BDE 85, BDE 99, BDE 100, BDE 119, BDE 126, BDE 138, BDE 153, BDE 154, BDE 156, BDE 175/183, BDE 184, BDE 191, BDE 196, BDE 197, BDE 206, BDE 207, and BDE 209. Details can be found in Appendix A. When the sampling volume is 1000 m3 (standard conditions) and the concentrated and diluted volume is 20 μL, the method detection limits for PBDEs with two to nine bromine atoms range from 0.02 pg/m3 to 0.4 pg/m3, and the measurement lower limits range from 0.08 pg/m3 to 1.6 pg/m3; the detection limit for decabromodiphenyl ether is 1 pg/m3, and the measurement lower limit is 4 pg/m3. When the sampling volume is 300 m3 (standard conditions) and the concentrated and diluted volume is 20 μL, the method detection limits for PBDEs with two to nine bromine atoms range from 0.05 pg/m3 to 2 pg/m3, and the measurement lower limits range from 0.20 pg/m3 to 8 pg/m3; the detection limit for decabromodiphenyl ether is 4 pg/m3, and the measurement lower limit is 16 pg/m3. Details can be found in Appendix B.
