This document applies to the harvesting, storage, and transportation of seed yams and commercial yams of pear-shaped yellow yam in Yunnan. Main technical contents: 1. Terms and definitions: There are no terms or definitions that need to be defined in this document. 2. Harvesting: 2.1 Harvesting pear-shaped yams: About 15 days after the plants have completely fallen over, select a sunny day to manually collect the pear-shaped yams that have fallen to the ground. 2.2 Harvesting tubers: After the harvest of pear-shaped yams is completed, mechanically harvest the tubers. If mechanical harvesting is not possible, manually dig them up to avoid damaging or bruising the tubers. 2.3 Pre-drying treatment: Immediately transport the harvested yams back and spread them in a dry, ventilated, and rain-proof place to dry naturally. The pre-treatment water loss rate of commercial yams should be controlled between 5% and 10%, while that of seed yams can be controlled between 5% and 20%. The pre-drying time should be within one week. 3. Storage: 3.1 Storage location: A safe, dry warehouse with good ventilation conditions. 3.2 Storage containers: Use breathable containers such as sacks, mesh woven bags, bamboo baskets, or plastic baskets. 3.3 Storage method: Use bamboo baskets or plastic baskets for multi-layered stacking, ensuring that the containers are not filled to capacity, leaving about 10% of empty space, and the stacking height should not exceed 2 meters. Use sacks and mesh woven bags for direct stacking, with the stacking height not exceeding 0.5 meters.
