Scope

This standard applies to enclosed disconnecting switches with an AC rated voltage not exceeding 1,000 V, used for repair, maintenance, and cleaning work in load circuits. These enclosed disconnecting switches are derived from the disconnecting switches in IEC 609473 and are suitable for isolating electrical equipment in the IEC 60947 series. To avoid unintended starting, it is not recommended to install remote control devices or automatic switches. These electrical devices are not intended for circuit switching, rapid starting and stopping, or intermittent operation of loads.
Note 1: This type of electrical device may disconnect electrical equipment (whether it is in normal operation or not).
The enclosed disconnecting switches in this standard provide isolation for electrical equipment (especially in motor circuits) during repair, maintenance, or cleaning work.
