Scope

This document specifies the special requirements for instruments used to measure the airborne activity concentrations of 222Rn and 220Rn in outdoor environments, residential areas, and workplaces (including underground mines). This document is applicable to almost all types of electronic instruments based on single-point measurement or continuous measurement. The activity concentration can be measured by pumping or diffusing air containing 222Rn and/or220Rn into the sensitive volume of the detection unit, or by air sampling at a specific moment (instantaneous sampling). Various types of instruments used for measurement are specified in IEC 615771. This document is not applicable to instruments that use activated carbon adsorption, electret, or solid nuclear track detectors.
