Scope

This standard specifies a method for determining the heat release rate when a sample is subjected to controlled-level heat radiation in a horizontal position using an external igniter. The heat release rate is measured by calculating the oxygen consumption from the oxygen concentration in the combustion product gas stream and the flow rate of the combustion products, while also measuring the time it takes for the sample to ignite (sustained flame combustion).
