太阳能光热发电站通常由集热系统、发电系统和储热系统三个主要系统组成。
由于太阳能光热发电站的部件和配置取决于所使用的太阳能集热技术(即塔式、抛物面槽式、抛物面碟式或线性菲涅尔集热技术)，因此某些术语不适用于所有类型的太阳能光热发电站，已在其定义中引入注释以示澄清。
