Scope

This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, and marking, packaging, transportation, and storage for marine audible and visual alarm signal devices (hereinafter referred to as "alarm devices").
This standard applies to audible and visual alarm signal devices related to safety on board ships, such as indicator lights, rotating flashlights, or electromechanical and electronic alarm devices without such flashlights, in their design, manufacture, and acceptance.
This standard does not apply to alarm devices used in the following situations:
a) Alarm devices used under special conditions of corrosiveness and explosiveness;
b) Alarm devices used for navigation between ships or between ships and the shore.
