This document specifies the technical requirements for plugs and sockets for household and similar purposes, including marking, protection against electric shock, structure, electrical performance, and mechanical performance.
This document applies to plugs and fixed or mobile sockets used indoors or outdoors for household and similar purposes, intended solely for AC power with a rated voltage of more than 50 V but not exceeding 440 V, and a rated current not exceeding 32 A, with or without grounding contacts.
For fixed sockets with non-screw terminals, the maximum rated current is limited to 16 A.
This document does not include requirements for concealed installation boxes, but only for the exposed installation boxes necessary for testing the sockets.
Note 1: The general requirements for installation boxes are specified in GB/T 17466.
This document also applies to plugs installed in cable assemblies, plugs installed in extension cord sockets (cable extension assemblies), and mobile sockets, as well as plugs and sockets that are components of appliances, unless otherwise specified in the relevant appliance standards.
This document does not apply to:
——Industrial plugs and sockets and couplers;
——Appliance couplers;
——Plugs and fixed or mobile sockets for extra-low voltage (ELV).
Note 2: The ELV values are specified in GB/T 16895.21.
——Fixed sockets combined with fuses, automatic switches, etc.
Note 3: Sockets with indicators are allowed, as long as the indicators comply with the relevant standards (if any).
Plugs and sockets that meet the requirements of this document are suitable for use in environments where the ambient temperature is generally not exceeding +40 °C, but not exceeding +35 °C during an average 24-hour period, and the lower limit of the ambient air temperature is -5 °C.
