This standard applies to the identification and marking of terminals of electrical equipment such as resistors, fuses, relays, contactors, transformers, rotating electric motors, and similar devices (e.g., complete sets of equipment), as well as to the identification of certain specific conductor terminals. This standard specifies general rules for identifying conductors with specific colors or alphanumeric codes to avoid confusion and ensure safety. These conductor colors or alphanumeric codes are used for cables or cores, busbars, electrical equipment, and devices. Basic safety publications are primarily used by technical committees when developing publications in accordance with the principles set out in IEC Guide 104 and ISO/IEC Guide 51. This standard does not apply to manufacturers or certification bodies. One of the responsibilities of technical committees is to refer to basic safety publications when developing standards, unless otherwise specified or included in relevant publications.
