This document specifies the requirements for outdoor optical cables and optical cable components used in communication networks.
This document is applicable to pipeline optical cables, directly buried optical cables, overhead optical cables, underwater optical cables for river and lake crossings, rapid/multiple deployment optical cables, and optical cables specifically used in sewage pipes and gas pipelines. Other similar types of optical cables may be referenced for use.
Note 1: For optical cables installed near overhead transmission lines, additional requirements and test methods are needed.
This document is not applicable to fiber optic composite overhead ground wires, fiber optic composite phase wires, and optical cables hung on overhead transmission line phase or ground wires. It is also not applicable to optical cables with underwater line amplifiers.
Note 2: For underwater optical cables for river and lake crossings, this document does not specify the repair methods and repair performance of the optical cables.
