Scope

This document applies to B15d and B22d bayonet sockets used to connect lamps and semi-fixtures to a 250 V power supply voltage. It also applies to sockets integrated into luminaires or used for installation inside equipment, but only includes requirements for the sockets themselves. For all other requirements, such as electric shock protection in the wiring terminal area, they must comply with the relevant appliance standards and be first installed in suitable devices, which are then tested according to their own standards. Sockets intended for use by luminaire manufacturers are not sold retail. The maximum operating temperature of the sockets used in luminaires is specified in IEC 605981. B15d refers to the lamp/socket mating system specified by IEC 600611's sheet 700411 and IEC 600612's sheet 700516, along with corresponding gauges. B22d refers to the lamp/socket mating system specified by IEC 600611's sheet 700410 and IEC 600612's sheet 700510, along with corresponding gauges.
