GB/T 18799-2020 Electric irons for household or similar use—Methods for measuring performance

Scope

This standard applies to electric irons for household and similar use.
The purpose of this standard is to describe and define the basic performance characteristics of electric irons for household and similar use that are of interest to users, and to describe the standard methods for testing these characteristics.
The electric irons included in this standard are:
——Dry irons;
——Steam irons;
——Open-type steam electric irons with electric pumps;
——Spray irons;
——Steam irons with a separate water container or evaporator/generator with a capacity not exceeding 5 L.
This standard does not address safety or performance requirements.
Note: The primary characteristic considered in the performance evaluation of electric irons is the ability to iron fabrics smoothly without causing scorching or other damage. It is not possible to use a single method to measure this characteristic stably and reproducibly. Therefore, the testing of electric irons includes the inspection of parameters such as the temperature at the center of the sole plate and the temperature distribution of the sole plate, which can affect their basic characteristics. When evaluating the quality of an electric iron, any unpredictable results of these parameters that greatly affect performance should be taken into account. In the comprehensive consideration of the results, there is a noteworthy threshold to provide satisfactory ironing performance, that is, not paying too much attention to the slight differences in individual results.
