Scope

This document provides a test method for verifying the safety of lamps used in lamp sockets.
This document is applicable to various types of built-in miscellaneous lamp sockets (used for ordinary lighting sources, projection lamps, floodlights, and street lighting lamps equipped with various lamp heads listed in Appendix A).
This document is also applicable to integrated lamp sockets that form an integral part of the luminaire, but only addresses the requirements of the lamp socket.
This document is also applicable to lamp sockets that are enclosed in a housing and integrated with a dome-shaped socket similar to a screw-type socket. Such lamp sockets are subject to further testing in accordance with the relevant provisions of IEC 60238.
Separate standards exist for the requirements of tubular fluorescent lamp sockets, screw-type lamp sockets, and bayonet lamp sockets.
