Scope

This section specifies the in-service testing requirements for nuclear island valves in pressurized water reactor nuclear power plants. This section applies to valves that perform safety functions and devices that provide overpressure protection, but does not include the following valves: a) valves used solely to facilitate operation, such as venting, draining, and testing valves; b) valves used solely for system control, such as pressure regulation valves; c) valves used solely for system or component maintenance; d) valves installed in a mobile manner; e) external control and protection systems responsible for detecting various power plant operating conditions or providing signals for valve operation; f) valves that are part of a module and participate in overall testing, and have been confirmed by the operating unit to have been adequately tested.
